1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
This is a story of The Demoniac, a possessed man, a strong man who always broke the chains and the shackles with which he was bound.
He was a fearful man, no man could tame him, no one in the town could control him or stop him.
He was driven insane by the demons in him, always screaming, cutting himself, no clothes.
Could it be that Demonic influence is what is causing the erosion of modesty in our current society?
He was living in the tombs – dead things: Could it be that the Goth culture, love of vampires, and fascination with zombies is an offshoot of that same demonic influence in today’s society?
Jesus comes to town. He had just calmed the sea saying ” Peace be still. The demoniac man realized Jesus was around, 2000 demons could not stop one man from coming to Jesus Christ or from worshipping Him. We saw Jesus taking control. The demons knew who was in charge, they didn’t try to fight Jesus, neither did they argue with Him. All they could do was beg; let us go into the pigs, please save our swine.
Jesus commanded them to go into the pigs. The coward demons took race! The pigs went insane the very same moment. They ran off the cliff and into the sea to drown. The swine-keepers saw it all and they went and told the rest of the town about what has happened.
The whole town came to see Jesus with the man (now in his right mind), and still they asked him to leave their town because they lost something that they thought they needed; their miracle cost them something. Pigs were unclean and supposed to be avoided by the Jews.
We know the answer. His name is Jesus. No matter what the problem is, the answer is Jesus. He has the power. All we have to do is ask,
but the answer is going to cost us something:
Pigs – unclean and to be avoided
-Our way of living
Jesus has to become #1
-In our time: Prayer and Bible reading
-In our finances: In Tithes and offerings
-In our lives: where we go, what we do, what we say, who we spend time with.
Mark 8:34-37 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
-We must really want an answer even if it costs us something
We can’t serve God and still have pigs in our lives;
God is more than sufficient to meet all of our needs
If the town had asked;
-Jesus fed 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fishes
-Jesus turned water into wine
-The same God that caused Manna to fall in the wilderness for the children of Israel was standing on the shores of their land.
-Jesus will even go on to resurrect dead people in His Earthly ministry so why not an animal?
Take this Whole World but give me Jesus!!!
